Luminaires
Product, Craft, 2007-13
Various luminaires designed over the years at Kiba.
Light bridges
This luminaire is inspired by the Leonard P Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge in Boston, MA. Using similar structural principles as the bridge, the light 'spans' the distance between two ends of a conference table and the cables hold the structure together.
Radiolarian
Inspired by radiolarians - microscopic organisms in the oceans, this lamp is a structural experiment. The shell structure provides stiffness and rigidity and the ellipsoid discs provide the tension to keep the splines flexed and pushing against one another.
Bamboo lamps
These are a few of the 100 lamps we designed as part of an installation on the Tree of Life. The lamps are made with bamboo and handmade paper. We used modern structural construction techniques in the design of the lamps which were then hand-built by traditional craftsmen.
Sculptural lights
Sculptural lights based on natural forms from the oceans.
